Destination Wedding Photographer in Paris
English-Speaking, Documentary Style
Imagine this…
Late golden light on the Seine, the Eiffel Tower catching the last of the sun. Your closest people gathered in a gilded salon or a private courtyard garden. Champagne on a terrace overlooking the rooftops of the 7th arrondissement. A first dance under crystal chandeliers in a palace hotel you have dreamed about since you were a child.
Paris is not just a backdrop for a wedding — it is the feeling you have been imagining your whole life. Grand, intimate, impossibly romantic. And I would love to be the one to document it for you.
I am Wayan Barre — a French-born, English-speaking documentary wedding photographer who grew up in Paris. I spent five years living and working in New Orleans, photographing weddings in one of the world’s great cities, and I bring that same urban storytelling instinct to every wedding I shoot in the city where I was raised.
Because I have family in Paris, I’m in the city regularly — which makes it easy to plan a scouting visit, build a realistic timeline, and stay flexible for weekday events and elopements.
Why Paris for Your Wedding?
No other city in the world carries the same romantic weight as Paris. It is the place people dream about when they imagine getting married abroad — and it more than delivers. The combination of world-class architecture, palace hotels, iconic landmarks, Michelin-starred dining, and a culture built around beauty and pleasure makes Paris the ultimate destination wedding city.
For couples traveling from the US, Canada, or the UK, Paris is effortlessly accessible. Direct flights arrive daily from New York, London, Chicago, Dublin, and dozens of other cities. Once you are here, the city is compact and elegant — you can walk from the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre in under thirty minutes, and every street in between is a photograph waiting to happen.
But what truly sets Paris apart is the range. You can host a black-tie reception in a gilded palace ballroom, exchange vows in a private garden overlooking the Seine, or elope at sunrise with the Eiffel Tower as your only witness. Paris adapts to every kind of love story — from the grandest celebration to the most intimate. And every version of it is breathtakingly photogenic.
Top Luxury Wedding Venues in Paris
Paris is home to some of the most iconic wedding venues in the world — and these are among the options that many international couples consider when planning a high-end celebration.
Shangri-La Paris
A former royal residence with unrivalled Eiffel Tower views from nearly every room. Imperial ballrooms, private terraces, and a sense of intimacy rare for a venue this grand. A favorite with American and British couples for its combination of old-world elegance and flawless service.
Le Meurice
Overlooking the Tuileries Gardens, Le Meurice channels Versailles in the heart of Paris. Gilded salons, soaring ceilings, and a legacy of opulence that photographs like a dream. The Salon Pompadour alone is worth the trip.
Hotel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel
On the Place de la Concorde with views stretching to the Grand Palais and Eiffel Tower. Recently restored with breathtaking modern elegance layered over 18th-century bones. The Salon des Aigles, with its gilded mirrors and natural light, is one of the most stunning reception rooms in Paris.
The Ritz Paris
The most storied hotel in Paris. Place Vendome, the Grand Jardin, the Salon Vendome — every corner is steeped in history and glamour. For couples who want their wedding to feel like a once-in-a-lifetime event. No venue in the world carries more name recognition.
Chateau de Villette
Just 45 minutes from central Paris — a 17th-century chateau set in 185 acres of woodland and lakes. Lavish interiors, manicured gardens, and the feeling of a countryside escape without leaving the Paris region. Ideal for multi-day celebrations with guests staying on the estate.
Musee Rodin
An 18th-century mansion surrounded by sculpture gardens in the heart of the 7th arrondissement. Cocktails among the Rodins, dinner under the trees, portraits beside The Thinker. Unlike any other venue in Paris — or anywhere. A truly artistic setting for couples who want something beyond the traditional hotel ballroom.
If you’re considering one of these venues (or something similar), I’m happy to help you think through the photography logistics: light, portrait locations nearby, and how to keep the day flowing smoothly in a busy city.
Iconic Photo Locations in Paris
Whether it is a full wedding day or a morning portrait session, Paris offers an extraordinary range of backdrops. I know these locations intimately — the best angles, the best light, and the best times to avoid crowds. Here are some of my favorites:
Trocadero & the Eiffel Tower — The most iconic view in the world. I prefer early morning for this, when the plaza is nearly empty and the light is soft and golden. Nothing compares.
Pont Alexandre III — Arguably the most beautiful bridge in Paris. Gilded lampposts, ornate sculptures, and the Grand Palais dome in the background. Stunning at sunset.
Palais Royal — The striped Buren columns, the quiet arcaded gardens, the elegant geometry. A sophisticated, graphic backdrop that photographs beautifully year-round.
The Louvre & Tuileries Gardens — The glass pyramid at dawn, the formal gardens in golden light, the long perspectives. Classic Paris at its most cinematic.
Montmartre & Sacre-Coeur — Cobblestone lanes, ivy-covered buildings, panoramic views over the city. Romantic in a way that feels timeless and slightly bohemian.
Ile Saint-Louis & the Seine — Quiet quays, old stone bridges, and views of Notre-Dame. The most intimate, local-feeling corner of central Paris.
Bir-Hakeim Bridge — Art Deco steel columns framing the Eiffel Tower. Dramatic, cinematic, and a personal favorite for couple portraits.
I’ll recommend locations based on your ceremony time, the season, and how private you want the experience to feel. Small decisions (timing, direction, walking routes) make a big difference in Paris.
Best Time of Year for a Paris Wedding
Paris is beautiful in every season — and each one gives your wedding a completely different character.
May and June are the most popular months for Paris weddings, and for good reason. Long days, warm evenings, and the gardens at their most lush. Sunset does not come until after 9:30pm, which means golden hour portraits feel unhurried and magical.
September and October are my personal favorites. The summer crowds have thinned, the light turns warm and amber, and the chestnut trees along the Seine begin to change color. Outdoor receptions are still comfortable, and the city has a calm, elegant energy.
March and April bring cherry blossoms and spring light — soft, flattering, and romantic. The weather can be unpredictable, so a venue with both indoor and outdoor options is wise. But when the sun appears, early spring in Paris is exquisite.
Winter weddings — November through February — are increasingly popular for couples who love the idea of a more intimate, atmospheric celebration. Think candlelit salons, bare trees along the quays, and the city wrapped in a soft grey light. Paris in winter is quiet, moody, and deeply romantic. Hotel venues are particularly well-suited to the season.
A note on summer: July and August are warm and long, but Paris empties — many locals leave for their holidays, and some restaurants and vendors take extended breaks. If you are considering a summer wedding, plan your vendor team early.
Elopements & Intimate Celebrations
Not every couple wants a large wedding — and Paris may be the most romantic place in the world to elope or celebrate with just a handful of your closest people.
A Paris elopement typically involves a symbolic ceremony — a personal, bespoke exchange of vows led by an English-speaking officiant, often held at a private venue or an iconic outdoor location. There is no legal paperwork required in France for a symbolic ceremony, which makes the logistics beautifully simple. Most couples handle the legal side at home and come to Paris purely for the experience.
I also offer engagement sessions and couple portrait shoots in Paris — whether you are celebrating an engagement, an anniversary, or simply want beautiful photographs of the two of you in the city. These sessions work especially well in Paris because the city rewards early mornings and quiet streets. We can plan a route that feels cinematic but natural — and make images that feel like a real chapter of your life, not a staged photoshoot.
My photojournalist approach works exceptionally well for elopements and intimate celebrations. With a smaller group and less structure, there is more room for real moments — walking hand in hand along the Seine, a quiet exchange of vows, champagne on a rooftop terrace. These are the kinds of moments I live for as a photographer.
What to Expect Working With Me
Documentary & Candid
I focus on real moments — the laughter, the tears, the glances, the small gestures. No stiff posing, no forced smiles.
Bilingual & Bicultural
Native French, fluent English. I bridge both worlds — working smoothly with French vendors while keeping you and your guests fully at ease.
Natural, Timeless Editing
Clean, warm, true-to-life color. No heavy filters or trendy presets. Images that will age well.

Planning from abroad can be stressful. I help with timing, light, location planning, and building a timeline that actually works in Paris.
Coverage can be tailored to your plans — from a short elopement session to a full wedding day, or a multi-day celebration.
Practical Tips for Your Paris Destination Wedding
Legal considerations: Getting legally married in France requires residency, so most international couples have a civil ceremony at home and a symbolic ceremony in Paris. This is by far the most common — and the most romantic — approach. Your symbolic ceremony can be entirely personalized, held anywhere you choose, and requires no paperwork.
Wedding planners: For palace hotels and complex days, a Paris-based planner is invaluable. They coordinate vendors, timing, and logistics — and help your weekend feel effortless.
Budget range: Paris destination weddings vary enormously. An intimate elopement with photographer, officiant, hair and makeup, and flowers can start from around 5,000 euros. A luxury wedding at a palace hotel with 80-150 guests typically starts from 50,000 euros and can go well beyond that. The key costs are venue hire, catering, and florals.
Getting around: Paris is compact and well-connected. The Metro and taxis make it easy for guests to move between hotels, venues, and landmarks. For the wedding day itself, many couples hire private cars or vintage vehicles for transfers — and these make for wonderful photographs too.
Guest experience: One of the great advantages of a Paris wedding is that your guests get a holiday. The city offers world-class restaurants, museums, shopping, and neighbourhoods to explore. A welcome dinner in the Marais, a morning at the Musee d’Orsay, an afternoon in Saint-Germain — your wedding weekend becomes an experience your guests will talk about for years.
Why Choose Me as Your Paris Wedding Photographer?
I grew up in Paris. This is the city that shaped the way I see — the light, the architecture, the rhythm of the streets. I know every arrondissement, every season, every shift in the light from morning to late evening. I know where to go when it rains. I know where the tourists are not.
But I also spent five years living and working in New Orleans — another city of history, culture, and celebration — where I built my career as a photojournalist and wedding photographer. That experience translates directly to Paris: working with city light, building portraits into real streets, finding calm moments inside busy places, and telling stories that feel alive.
I bring both of those worlds to every Paris wedding. French roots, international perspective, and the instincts of a journalist. I speak fluent English and French, which means I can communicate effortlessly with your vendors, your guests, and your French venue coordinator — while making you feel completely at ease.
My style is documentary and story-driven. I do not over-direct or stage moments. I watch, I anticipate, and I capture what is real. The result is a gallery that feels like your day actually felt — emotional, beautiful, and alive.
